Rockingham, 29 August 2004
With an expanding grid in terms of diversity as well as numbers the team new that Rockingham would provide a stiff challenge. With a lead in the overall standings as well as Class A and Class B to defend it was clearly a weekend where defensive tactics were to be called for.
With an outright win unlikely Steve Lewis sandbagged during qualifying to secure a position at the back of the class, in order to score bonus points for overtaking cars in the same race during the race. This left ex-TVR Tuscan champion Steve Guglielmi to secure pole in a TVR Griffith ahead of the other Griffiths and Tuscans. Race 1 went to plan with Steve coming through to finish 1 place behind series rival Simon Bowes. Due to the scoring system this allowed Steve to outscore Simon.
In the second race on lap 4 the heavens opened and although Steve could keep Simon Bowes under pressure he could not force him into a mistake. With a lot to play for Steve settled for second, secure in the knowledge that he could take his championship lead to Mallpry Park, which would suit the turbo Tasmin well. With class trophy's for Dave Reynolds and Gary Coulson the weekend ended with a lot of extra trophy space required.
