TVRs at Anglesey 2004

Anglesey Circuit 3 - 4 July 2004

The team made the long trek up to Anglesey for a double header of the TVR cup against the backdrop of Snowdonia. The team arrived on Thursday to set up for a busy Friday of testing (having not taken the sat-nav's suggested route over Snowdonia...in an artic).

The tight twisty track of Anglesey was never going to be natural territory for turbo powered TVR's, but some recent testing data allowed the team to evolve the set-up considerably. After Friday's testing Steve Lewis's TVR was diagnosed with a blown turbo. A replacement was sourced in Northampton and driven up by team co-owner Paul Fenton. Arrival at midnight ensured a late night rebuilding the turbo system.

Qualifying for the first race saw Dave Reynolds secure his first pole position with Steve Lewis, Pat Smith and Kevan Gore in close contention. Recent race winner and main competition Simon Bowes was thrown to the back of the grid for a technical infringement. The race turned into a fantastic team result with Steve Lewis getting ahead from the start and holding Dave Reynolds off right up to the flag. Kevan Gore and Pat Smith earned themselves a free night at the bar by holding up the TVR Griffith of last year's champion Simon Bowes for many laps. When he did slip through it was too late for him to challenge Steve or Dave.
The second race proved a hard-fought battle with Steve Lewis opting to hold position in second to ensure a strong points position in the series than challenge the Griffith for the lead. The other drivers came through to give the team 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th. In class B Graham Walden held off strong competition to bag a 1st and a 2nd in class A over the weekend.
