British GTs, Brands Hatch 24 September 2005

The A1 GP inaugural round at Brands Hatch provided an opportunity to run the Moore Racing-supported BMW Z3M Coupe in the Tag Heuer GT250 on the Brands Hatch GP circuit in front of 70,000 people. An opportunity that drivers Rod Barrett and Jan Harrison felt just could not be missed!

Against many regular British GT cars the Z3M Coupe with standard engine was never going to challenge for overall victory. The event went well, as described by Rod:

“Qualifying was as expected, we were well down at the back of the grid but not last for we had the legs, believe it or not, on several of the 355 Ferrari’s which despite their 380bhp were slower then us due to being some 200kgs heavier, nice one. Race 1 on Saturday afternoon proved faultless for us, she ran perfectly and we finished 23rd of the 32 starters, not a bad result for one of the slowest cars on the track!
Sunday was a fair weather day although to start with we were sure that wet tyres were going to be required, false alarm thank goodness. Another faultless race in front of 50,000 spectators, we overtook several 355’s and came up trumps with our finish, 19th overall, upgraded to 18th as someone did something wrong. 18th out of 32, most of which could eat us for breakfast, but the little BMW with it’s bog standard engine can again proudly claim the reliability trump card, what a little star!”
