Steady accumulators keep going

In their final Britcar outing before the 24 hour race Gary Coulson and Hubert Hincklehoffer looked to return to their run of steady finishes after the disappointment of Spa.

The team's Civic sought to stay out of trouble around the fast flowing curves of Donington Park and look for a steady run in the race. Qualifying passed without incident, the duo lining up 35th in a large grid of GT, Touring cars and Production Saloons.

Gary started the race and ran steadily to hold station. The team ran deep into the pit window hoping for a late safety car after others had pitted. Unfortunately no opportunity presented itself so the team called Gary in under green flag conditions. Hubert jumped in at the smooth pitstop and rejoined the race. With 67 laps Hubert found himself without any gears. Later investigation showed that a cheap standard Honda clip had popped out of the gear linkage - something that had not occurred in the previous two years. This took 30 seconds to fix post race, but by then it was too late. Crucially Gary and Hubert had covered 67 laps which turned out to be exactly 80% of the class winners distance earning a classified finish and points for sixth in class.
